Confield abandoned recognizable dance-music reference points for rhythm generated by its own algorithmic systems, arriving at a percussive language with no clear antecedent and few true successors. 'VI Scose Poise' opens by refusing to establish a pulse and nothing after it relents. It marks the moment IDM stopped gesturing at dance music and became a self-contained compositional discipline.

The moment they handed structural decisions to processes and let the results stand. It baffled people on release and it still resists, but the rhythms underneath are alive rather than academic, which is why it outlasted every record made to imitate it.
