Why it's here
Half-remembered childhood on decayed tape; the most imitated texture in electronic music
Music Has the Right to Children built its whole world from half-remembered childhood and decayed tape, and in doing so it produced the single most imitated texture in electronic music since. A generation of producers has chased that warped, nostalgic, faintly sinister sound and never quite caught it. It's the most influential record in the lower half of this tier. It sits at eight rather than higher because its second half drifts where its first half is immaculate.
