Smokers Delight is the actual sound of a comedown, Leeds hip-hop slowed to a crawl and stretched into something narcotic and complete. Nightmares on Wax build the album from warm bass, lazy drums and samples that seem content to hang in the air, turning downtime into a full-length environment rather than an interlude between bigger nights.

George Evelyn moving from Leeds bleep to the most generous record in this tradition. Warm, unhurried and faintly stoned, and it became Britain's default evening record without ever sounding like it was aiming to be.
