Why it's here

Built entirely from other people's records; a thesis on crate-digging as authorship

Endtroducing..... was built entirely from other people's records, and it turned crate-digging into a form of authorship that instrumental hip-hop has never stopped exploring. As a piece of pure construction it belongs in the top ten, and everyone who has ever assembled a record from samples works in its shadow. It sits at twenty-two because this is a rave canon and Endtroducing visits it rather than living in it. A purist would cut it entirely; keeping it and taxing it is the honest call.
