A Word of Science

Before the downtempo years, Nightmares on Wax were still a bleep-and-breakbeat act, and A Word of Science catches them mid-motion. 'Aftermath' and 'Dextrous' belong to Warp's founding sound; elsewhere the record is rougher, stranger and more rave-facing than the music that later made George Evelyn famous. It is uneven, and it documents a founding Warp sound nothing else quite replaces. You can hear the joins, and that is part of the energy.
