'Push Upstairs', 'Jumbo' and 'King of Snake' still hit with the force of set pieces, but the spaces between them are smoother and more polished than on the records before. It is the trilogy's coda and not its summit. The trilogy ends not with collapse but with the machinery running hot and slightly cleaner.

Born Slippy had made them famous and this is the record that had to follow. Cups, Jumbo, King of Snake and Moaner make a coherent long album; it is looser than the two above it and better than its reputation among people who stopped listening after 1996.
