Numbers is the record Detroit and Miami both stole; the most sampled Kraftwerk
Computer World is Kraftwerk at their tightest, funnier and funkier than their reputation sometimes allows. 'Numbers' reduces the idea almost to pure counting rhythm, while 'Computer Love' and the rest keep finding hooks inside systems. Its fingerprints are everywhere downstream, but the pleasure starts with how efficiently every mechanism doubles as a tune. Trans-Europe Express is the larger statement; this may be the better-made record.
№ 17 on The 10 Best Synth-Pop Albums
Kraftwerk seeing the whole thing coming: data, surveillance, pocket calculators. Ranks high on the 20th-century canon.
