Turned the chill-out room into a double LP and got away with it
Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld turned the chill-out room into a double album with a thesis, jokes and Little Fluffy Clouds, and proved ambient house could be as ambitious and as funny as anything happening on a dancefloor. It invented a genre as a place rather than a sound. Everything downstream, from the comedown record to the ambient-techno double LP to the sample-collage epic, passes through it. It loses the top spot only on economy: it does with two hours what the record above it does with one.
