The last one before Plaid left; the sound of a group arguing beautifully

Spanners catches the Black Dog at the point where three strong musical instincts no longer sound entirely reconcilable. Ritualistic loops, melodic detail and restless programming keep pulling the record in different directions. Some passages open immediately; others stay stubborn and knotted. That refusal to settle is the demand it makes. Nothing the three of them made apart came close.
