Pansoul

Pansoul is French house before it had a name, the blueprint Daft Punk built on. Étienne de Crécy and Philippe Zdar make filters pump, samples swing and grooves breathe with a looseness later records would streamline. You can hear the template forming without hearing a formula yet. Below the Detroit records it studied and above the French house it launched: the honest place for a foundation stone.

Dust, compression and an apartment. Zdar and de Crecy got there first and stayed calmest, and the record still sounds like it was made by people with nothing to prove and no expectation of an audience.
