Black Secret Technology is the most emotionally complicated jungle album anyone made, built alone and mixed rough on purpose. Gerald ran the Amen break through longing and paranoia in equal measure, and widened the genre's emotional range in a way Photek and Source Direct clearly heard. The mix is genuinely muddy; Gerald agreed, and remixed the whole thing in 2008. That roughness is part of why it matters and part of why it sits at nineteen rather than higher.
