Maxinquaye

Maxinquaye is Bristol's paranoid twin to Blue Lines. Tricky buries his own presence beneath Martina Topley-Bird singing his words back to him, building a claustrophobic, narcotic world from voices, samples and half-lit rhythm that almost nobody has successfully copied. 'Strugglin'' and 'Feed Me' divide listeners. Those two tracks are the only thing holding it below Walking Wounded.

Adrian Thaws left Massive Attack and whispered his way to something stranger than anything they made. Martina Topley-Bird sings most of it while he mutters underneath, and the effect is closer to eavesdropping than to listening.
