Pre-Millennium Tension sounds feverish from the start, cut in Jamaica but carrying almost none of the ease that setting might imply. Tricky pulls voices, beats and fragments into a mix that keeps refusing comfort, pushing the listener away whenever a groove begins to settle. The difficulty costs it reach. Nothing here was made to be liked.

Made fast, mixed hostile, and considerably less accommodating than Maxinquaye. The record where Tricky stops wanting anything from you, which is why the people who love it love it more than the debut.
