Lamb

Lamb put jungle drums under one of the decade's most vulnerable voices and make the pairing sound inevitable. A few tracks dip, and the peaks are what put it here: 'Górecki' is the obvious summit, but the whole debut keeps working the friction between Lou Rhodes' intimacy and Andy Barlow's restless programming. The best of it makes tenderness feel rhythmically dangerous.

Jungle breaks spliced under torch songs, which sounded inevitable rather than clever, which is the hard part. Lou Rhodes sings like the room is empty and Andy Barlow keeps pulling the floor out from under her.
