Consumed

Consumed is almost silent, almost nothing, Hawtin's most extreme gesture, minimal techno reduced until barely anything remains. Plastikman stripped the sound so far back that the space between the sounds becomes the music, and it's a genuine test of how little a record can contain and still work. It ranks at a hundred and seventeen because that austerity is punishing as well as impressive, but as an experiment in subtraction it's fearless, and nothing else goes this far.
