Trans-Europe Express is the record Detroit heard and rebuilt itself around, and it's the most consequential ancestor on this whole list. It plays end to end with no filler, 'Europe Endless' and the title suite among the most elegant things any machine has produced, and it fed electro and techno at once. It sits at forty-two rather than higher because a rave canon can honour its ancestry without pretending it belongs in the top ten, but everything downstream passes through it.
