Substrata

Substrata is ambient's coldest masterpiece, Arctic field recordings and Twin Peaks samples folded into a record that feels genuinely remote rather than merely calm. Biosphere made isolation into a sound and set the benchmark every subsequent isolationist record has measured against. It works in a single register, and within that register it is untouchable. It has aged into something like a standard.
