Why it's here
Tibetan field recordings over breakbeats; the ethical questions came later
Last Train to Lhasa is Tibetan field recordings over breakbeats, Banco de Gaia's most ambitious record and its most complicated in hindsight. The ethical questions about the sampling came later; at the time it was simply an immersive, cinematic piece of global ambient with real emotional weight. It ranks at ninety-nine because it's a record of atmosphere more than composition, but the atmosphere is transporting, and it's the finest thing its scene produced.
