Invented the chill-out room's soundtrack by inventing an imaginary road trip

Chill Out is a conceptual masterpiece, an imaginary night drive across the American South rendered in samples, pedal steel and radio ghosts. The KLF bleed location, memory and transmission together until individual tracks barely matter, effectively turning the chill-out album into a form rather than a playlist.

№ 6 on The 10 Best Ambient Albums

A Gulf Coast road trip that never happened, assembled from pedal steel, sheep, shortwave and Elvis. Drummond and Cauty invented the ambient house album more or less as a prank and produced something genuinely moving.
