Pop stardom as art prank; the singles are perfect and they burned the money

The concept sometimes overshadows the music, and nobody else played the game this knowingly. The White Room turns pop stardom into part of the KLF's joke, but the songs survive even when the joke is stripped away. Stadium-house excess, absurd framing and big tunes all occupy the same space and none of them cancels the rest. The humor never gets in the way of the hooks.
