Dig Your Own Hole is big beat at its least stupid, the record where the Chemical Brothers proved the genre could carry real ideas and not just enormous drums. 'Block Rockin' Beats' and 'Setting Sun' were everywhere in 1997, but 'The Private Psychedelic Reel' is the one that showed the ambition underneath. It's the best album the genre produced. It dated faster than its neighbours here, which is the only thing holding it at twenty-one.
