Why it's here
Probably a Robbery; London dub-breakbeat before anyone named it
Soundclash is London dub-breakbeat before anyone named it, 'Probably a Robbery' and a record that fused dub and hip-hop and breakbeat with a distinctly British sensibility. Renegade Soundwave built something rough and forward-looking, a sound that predicted a lot of what big beat and trip-hop would later formalise. It ranks at a hundred and seventy-two because it's a rough early sketch of ideas others refined, but the sketch got there first, and it still hits hard.
