Pessimist lets drum & bass, techno and industrial atmosphere occupy the same dark space without clearly privileging any one of them. 'Peter Hitchens' sits between two seven-minute tracks and is named after a newspaper columnist. That tells you the dread is British and specific. Breaks move under heavy ambience and metallic texture, making the album suspended between propulsion and dread.
