Hongkong is Robert Henke before he wrote Ableton, the software's aesthetic in embryo, dub techno built with the tools he'd later give the world. Monolake made spacious, precise, deeply architectural music, and you can hear the sensibility that would shape a generation of producers taking form. It ranks at a hundred and thirty-four because it's an early statement still finding its range, but the range it was finding would influence how electronic music itself got made.
