Journey Inwards

Journey Inwards moves drum and bass at a calmer, more spacious pace, breakbeat science intact underneath it. Fourteen tracks and almost all of them past seven minutes. That is the argument about pace made structurally. Jazz-inflected chords and Amen pressure share the same frame, giving LTJ Bukem's atmospheric language enough breadth to sustain a full album.

Rhodes chords, rainforest samples and an entire parallel aesthetic, arriving as an album after the sound had already spread everywhere. A summary rather than a discovery, and one of the very few that justifies its length.
