Why it's here
The most melodic of the second wave; Detroit's romantic
Azimuth is the most melodic of Detroit's second wave, Kenny Larkin the city's romantic, techno built around genuine emotion rather than pure function. Where a lot of Detroit techno kept its feelings at arm's length, Larkin let his in, and the record glows with a warmth the genre often withheld. It ranks at a hundred and thirty-two because it's a lyrical statement rather than a revolutionary one, but the lyricism is rare and real, and few Detroit records are this openly beautiful.
