Why it's here

Named the genre in the sleeve notes; the chill-out room's grandfather

Music for Airports named a genre in its own sleeve notes and remains in literal use as music, playing in actual airports and countless rooms every day of the year. It's the chill-out room's grandfather and one of the most quietly influential records ever made. It opens this tier deliberately: too low for the record on pure merit, too high for a floor-function of zero, but exactly right for what a rave canon can honestly claim of an ambient landmark that stands at the edge of its own story rather than inside it.
