Returning after more than a decade of silence, Aphex Twin sounds less like an artist revisiting an old language than one discovering how much of it he had left unexplored. 'Minipops 67' opens with the sequencer already mid-thought and 'Aisatsana' closes on solo piano. That is the range of the record in two tracks. Syro is analog-synth funk of extraordinary mechanical detail: live-mixed hardware sequences, warm low end and rhythm programming intricate enough to function as a masterclass in IDM and braindance.
