Negative Fascination fuses EBM menace with techno propulsion so tightly that neither side feels decorative. It opens on 'Process (Introduction)' and closes on 'Utopian Disaster (End)'. The bracketed stage directions are not a joke. Juan Mendez runs the synths cold, the drums forceful and the atmosphere permanently nocturnal, giving the industrial-techno revival one of its clearest aesthetic identities.

Cold wave and Detroit techno treated as equal ancestors, by a producer who was also a designer and made the whole thing look like a manifesto. Mendez died in 2024 and this remains the modern statement of the form.
