The Red Notes

The Red Notes sounds like Hieroglyphic Being letting Chicago house forget where the bar lines are. Jazz phrasing, rough surfaces and skewed swing keep pulling the tracks off-center and never quite let them collapse. The looseness feels mischievous rather than merely raw. The title track runs fourteen minutes, more than twice anything around it, and it is where the bar lines go missing entirely.
