Why it's here
Sirens stretches Jaar's house-adjacent language into abstract, politically charged and theatrical territory, incorporating spoken Spanish, tango fragments and sudden structural ruptures. The politics are built into the instability of the record itself: songs fracture, languages shift and functional form keeps giving way beneath the listener. Six tracks and 'Killing Time' takes eleven minutes of them before the record has told you what it is.
