A precursor and not a peak, and accomplished enough to stand without the career that followed. Before Metro Area, Morgan Geist was already obsessed with placement, and The Driving Memoirs renders Detroit techno with unusually clean lines, exact timing and very little wasted motion. The details barely announce themselves, which is exactly why they hold up under close listening.
