Tripomatic Fairytales 2001

'Stella' is the obvious monument, but Tripomatic Fairytales 2001 is stranger around the edges than its reputation suggests. Jam & Spoon loosen Frankfurt trance into long passages that drift, mutate and occasionally seem unsure where they are headed. That uncertainty is the attraction: the record still sounds like two producers discovering how much room the form might contain.

Frankfurt at its most psychedelic and least cynical. Stella is the famous one and the album around it drifts further out than the reputation allows. The high point of trance before the form learned to sell itself.
