Landcruising

Landcruising is Carl Craig thinking beyond the single, the instinct that made the singles work still intact. Jazz harmony and machine rhythm keep pulling at each other as the tracks stretch and change register. Some ideas still feel provisional. A first statement still finding its shape, and the shape was unlike anyone else's.

The first Craig album, looser and more restless than what followed, and the record where the city's second wave works out what an album can be. Everything he did afterwards is visible here in outline, which makes it a document as much as a record, and it holds up as both.
