Landcruising

Landcruising is Carl Craig's debut, the record Vice once ranked second of all dance albums, a genuinely strange choice that nonetheless holds up. It's Detroit techno reaching toward something cinematic and open-ended, less immediate than his later work but full of ideas. It ranks at a hundred and ten because it's a first statement still finding its shape, but the shape it was finding was unlike anyone else's, and the ambition is real throughout.
