Dom Maker and Kai Campos met at university in London, released through Hotflush, and replaced bass music's aggression with texture and restraint at precisely the right moment. Crooks & Lovers gave post-dubstep its blurred edges and its indoor voice. They also gave James Blake his early context, and the album's influence far outran its sales.
