Terre Thaemlitz writes and lectures as much as produces, and treats house as a queer, working, political form rather than a leisure product. Midtown 120 Blues is a history lesson and an elegy at once, and it refuses every comfortable thing the genre had come to assume about itself. Nothing else in deep house argues this hard.
