Rod Modell reaches for a field recorder as often as a synthesizer, layering city noise beneath the chords until the source dissolves. Sommer pours Detroit humidity over Basic Channel foundations and goes as deep as anything in the style. Twenty-five years in, the project has outlasted most of the scene that grew up around it.
