Brazilian by birth, English by upbringing, and pathologically unwilling to use a sample the way anyone else would. He signed to Ninja Tune in 1997 and treated the machine like an orchestra pit, chopping jazz sides and field recordings into music with no obvious parentage. Bricolage and Supermodified both chart, and both go well past whatever label anyone tried to hang on him.
