Planet E, 1991. Carl Craig needed somewhere to put the tracks that were too loose to carry his own name, so he invented 69 and let the four-track do the thinking. The Sound of Music is Detroit's second wave caught mid-thought rather than mid-statement, and three decades on it has outlasted a good deal of music that worked considerably harder at sounding important.
