Drone, industrial clang and long-form abstraction turn the Knife's pop instincts inside out on Shaking the Habitual. Politically charged vocals keep pulling the record away from easy floor function. The difficulty feels deliberate, not ornamental. 'Old Dreams Waiting To Be Realized' is nineteen minutes of drone placed halfway down the record, which is the difficulty stated as a structural fact rather than a texture.
