Skream!

Skream! is useful evidence that early dubstep was never just sub-bass plus three empty drum hits and a stern face. 'Midnight Request Line' is barely four minutes and changed what a dubstep track could be. Across album length, Skream keeps changing the temperature and pacing, the sound-system weight never goes. The format suits him better than the scene's single-minded reputation suggests.

The one that sounds like the scene actually sounded. Oliver Jones was a teenager cutting plates at Big Apple with Midnight Request Line already behind him, and this is dubstep's first great album because it is not trying to be anything except itself.
