Shell~Wave pulls Surgeon's machine-groove discipline toward dub techno. Echo, restraint and heavy low end soften the attack and the tracks never turn passive, leaving the rhythm to advance through pressure rather than blunt force. 'Dying' sits in the middle of the running order and the record gets quieter after it. That is not how a Surgeon album used to work.
