Thrills pushes Ellen Allien's minimal-electro language into a colder, more propulsive frame. Icy synths and clipped rhythms give the record real Berlin momentum, even if it feels more like a tightening of her existing sound than a new turn. 'Washing Machine Is Speaking' is the title of a Berlin techno track from 2005 and nobody thought twice about it.
