Stephen Samuel Gordon wrote and performed rather than rapped, drawing on dub poetry and science fiction, and his basso dread gave early Hyperdub its voice and its moral weight. He worked with Kode9 across a decade, and Memories of the Future is the result. He died in 2014. Dubstep has never found another voice like it.
