Grime made hundreds of miles from where grime was invented, out of Edinburgh voice memos, phone recordings and half-heard conversation. Joe Powers signed to Hyperdub as a teenager. Insula is the genre refracted through a Scottish adolescence, and it is genuinely new rather than merely regional, which is a distinction most scenes never manage.
