John Foxx

He left Ultravox before Vienna and made Metamatic alone, on a budget, with a drum machine and a sense of British dread. It is the coldest record of its era: machines, alienation, tower blocks, and no consolation offered anywhere. The band he left went on to be enormous and this is the record people still write about.
