He made Oxygene in a Paris flat on borrowed equipment after the industry had turned him down, and then sold it in numbers nobody in Berlin came close to. The melodic wing of this music at its most direct, and considerably stranger underneath the tunes than its ubiquity suggests. It has been used as furniture ever since and survives that.
