Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths made Londinium in 1996, when trip-hop was a Bristol word and London was supposed to be doing something else. Real songs, a rougher edge, and a singer in Roya Arab who sounded nothing like Beth Gibbons. The band then became a progressive rock act, which has obscured how good the first record was.
