Soul Music drags pirate-radio jungle, rave stabs and breakbeat pressure into the 2010s and refuses to treat revivalism as costume. Special Request makes the old vocabulary hit with modern scale, widening the stereo field and low end while with the nervous energy of the source intact. 'Soundboy Killer' and 'Ride V.I.P.' are the titles a 1994 white label would have carried, and they are not being ironic.
