Utility removes the kick drum and keeps techno's sense of tension and release. Barker builds rhythm from pulse, motion and carefully controlled expectation, turning a theoretical constraint into music that still feels physical rather than schematic. 'Hedonic Treadmill', 'Wireheading', 'Models Of Wellbeing': the titles come from philosophy of mind and the record is not being ironic about it.
